Sign in for Hydro's Aluminium 2022 Seminars

In only a few weeks the aluminium industry will gather to explore, exchange, and discuss challenges, solutions, and new ideas throughout the aluminium value chain.

To expand your Aluminium 2022 experience, we are pleased to invite you to our series of exclusive seminars. In an intimate setting of a maximum of 14 participants, we will approach solutions for the uncertainties of this time.

We offer you eight different 45-minute sessions on Tuesday, September 27 and Wednesday, September 28 with the following topics:

  • Green scarcity? - An aluminium market update
  • Light-weighting in the era of BEV – Economy & ecology
  • Production of 100R – Utilizing post-consumer scrap to produce near-zero carbon aluminium
  • HyForge – Light-weighting automotive with high-quality forging material from Hydro Husnes and Rackwitz
  • Fast-track decarbonization of Hydro REDUXA
  • Going first - zero emissions in extrusion manufacturing
  • LCA - Disclosing environmental impacts of aluminium profiles

Reserve your spot by registering below and choosing your session of interest.

We are looking forward to an inspiring exchange with you.
Because every step matters on the path to zero.

Lightweight design in the era of BEVs: Economy & Ecology

By Stig Tjøtta, Head of Technology, Hydro Aluminium Metal Commercial

Aluminium has over many years continuously penetrated new automotive applications. A main driver has been the need for lightweight designs to reduce fuel consumption in combustion engine vehicles (ICEs).

With battery electric vehicles (BEVs) the focus on weight is even stronger. But in a different way. The main goal in reducing the weight of BEVs is to reduce the required battery size or increase the driving range per charge. This presentation will discuss the business case for light weighting through secondary cost reductions. We will present in a scientific manner the results of a comprehensive study showing that lightweight design and mass reduction are also highly relevant for BEVs.

In the second part of the presentation, we will discuss the carbon footprint of vehicles in a life-cycle perspective and the impact of light weighting.
