(re)Cycling, Circal and the (cycle)Path to Zero
Nick Kemp, Head of Design -X50 Brompton BicycleBrompton’s mission is Creating Urban Freedom for Happier lives, enabling active and multi-modal travel through cities of the world. Cycling makes us, our cities and our planet healthier and happier. However, as a manufacturer we need to acknowledge the environmental impact of our production. Circal offers a more sustainable, circular route for aluminium in cycling and micro-mobility – The same urban freedom and positive impact, but with a tiny carbon footprint. Having successfully worked with Hydro to produce the world’s first 100% post-consumer safety critical components, we have jointly taken the first essential step on an exciting journey.

Circularity in Surface Treatment @ Hydro Extrusion Europe with the Green P&L in Anodizing
Marc-Steffen Hinderer, Director Surface Opex & Commercial HydroMonitoring the main consumers in the anodizing process on different HYDRO locations all over Europe. The main target was to built a network and reporting platform, to analyse and benchmark on consumption different lines with each other. Driving operational excellence in energy reduction, waste reduction or eliminate waste with choosing different technologies e.g, zero liquide discharge vs. minimum liquid discharge, sulfuric retardation, caustic retardation development, filter cake qualification process to be a circular product in the future. Local or regional tolerances in permissions and water treatment regulations create a lot of challenges and influence the Technology development for the future. This is now in use, to built our future best available technologies in our HYDRO anodizing plants to reduce our CO2 footprint significantly.

Market Update - Navigating Uncertain Waters
Eline Johansen Nielsen, Market Analyst Hydro
The aluminium market has experienced increased volatility the last few years. In Europe we have experienced an energy crisis, reducing the smelting capacity significantly. We have entered a new economic reality characterised by high interest rates, reduced activity, and increased political polarisation. Geopolitics has affected freight markets and consequently European supply. The European automotive industry is experiencing increased pressure as Chinese electric vehicle production booms. Not to mention decarbonisation of the industry, pushed forth by regulations like CBAM. How will aluminium navigate these uncertain waters going forward?
